Our Mission

This blog was inspired by Richard Rodman’s “A House of 1,000 Windows” from Weidman and Jacob’s (2011) Beyond the comparative: advancing theory and its application to practice. Rodman’s international education house has many windows through we each look. He describes our windows as “certain historical, cultural, quantitative, qualitative” that we are “comfortable with, and through which we view the world”. Our windows are our unique perspectives of our field, created by our experience, our cultural backgrounds and the contexts we live in. To expand our view from our windows, we must “move about the house and beyond to conferences and into the field to actively engage and open dialogue with one another”.

In an ideal world, we would have enough time to seek out resources, attend multiple conferences and visit with each other to learn more about our work. One Million Windows is an opportunity for us to create a diverse community, to learn about our house while expanding our windows. We will be recruiting contributors to build our international education house so we can learn from the diversity of perspectives in our field.
